The value of this approach was recognised with the introduction of new Family Law Rules on 1st July 2007, which makes mediation a compulsory step before proceedings can be issued in the Family Court on children's matters.

At Pearsons, we offer a full range of mediation services led by Directors Leanne Abela and Joe Schepis. Leanne and Joe draw on their years of experience in family law, de facto and domestic relationships law to help parties explore their issues within a legal framework and find an out-of-court solution that everyone can agree on.

Leanne is also one of only a few lawyers on the Federal Magistrates Court Family Court Division Panel of Mediators who conduct court-ordered conciliation conferences in property mediations. Leanne also won the Relationships Australia (Victoria) Family Mediation prize in the year 2000

A RANGE OF MEDIATION MODELS

Pearsons' provides a range of cost-effective models of mediation, including:

* mediation of discussions between parties
* mediation between parties, with their solicitors and/or barristers present
* facilitation of discussions between the parties' lawyers, without the parties present
* court-ordered conciliation, and
* mediation for parties who have not started court proceedings as part of the new Family Law Rules pre-action procedure.

Unlike court conciliation services, mediation at Pearsons is not restricted by time or location. We can come to you or you can choose to use our CBD mediation facilities at no cost.
