Peter Davis - Director.

Peter has over 30 years' experience in general practice. His main areas of practice include :-

* Property Law, including purchase and sale of all types of property;
* Commercial and retail leasing; building contracts and disputes;
* Commercial and Business Law including sale and purchase of business entities,
partnerships, joint ventures; Wills and Testamentary Trusts and all types of Powers of Attorney;
* Deceased Estates including will and estate litigation;
* Civil litigation, commercial,property and contractual disputes.

Peter was admitted to practice as barrister and solicitor in March 1973 and became a partner of Pearsons in 1974

Joseph Schepis - Director.

Joe has practised exclusively in the area of marriage and relationship breakdowns since 1987 and is accredited as a Specialist by the Law Institute of Victoria in Family Law matters. He has a particular interest in complex financial matters involving companies and trusts.

His work includes:

Family Law advice and litigation including property settlements, children's issues (residence/custody, contact / access, child support / maintenance etc.), divorce, spousal maintenance, restraining orders, superannuation and the preparation of Binding Financial Agreements (either prior to marriage, during the marriage or after separation);and the law relating to Defacto Relationships, including advice and litigation in relation to financial and children's issues and the preparation of Co-habitation Agreements and Separation Agreements.

Joe has a Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Laws from Monash University and a Graduate Diploma in Family Law Mediation from La Trobe University. He was admitted to practise in 1987. He joined Pearsons in 1994 and became a partner the following year.

Joe has served on the Family Law Executive and Court's Practice Committees of the Family Law Section of the Law Institute of Victoria. He has co-authored a number of published articles and presented papers on various Family Law topics.

Leanne Abela - Director.

Leanne joined the firm of Pearsons in 1987 after graduating with a combined Law and Arts degree from Melbourne University and has been a Partner of the firm since 1991. She also has a post graduate Diploma in Family Mediation from La Trobe University.

Leanne has practiced exclusively in the areas of family law, defacto law, same sex couple law and family violence since she was admitted to practise as a lawyer in 1987. She also practices as a Mediator both in private disputes and on behalf of Relationships Australia for the Federal Magistrates' Court, mediating in property matters arising in family disputes regarding property.

Leanne was winner of the Relationships Australia prize in Mediation in the year 2000. She has lectured in Family law at LaTrobe University and she is also a Committee Member of the Domestic Violence and Incest Resource Centre.

Helen Chetcuti - Senior Associate.

Helen has a BA with Honours (majoring in legal studies) and a LLB from La Trobe University. Her areas of practice are Family law, including property and children's issues.

She was admitted to practice in 2005 after completing her articles at Pearsons.

Helen is a current Management Member of Caroline Lodge Women's refuge and the Domestic Violence Incest Resource Centre ( DVIRC).

Jacqueline Spry - Associate.

Jacqueline has a BA ( Double Major Legal Studies and Anthropology) and a LLB from La Trobe University.

Jacqueline joined Pearsons in 2006 and practices family law, including:

* Federal Magistrates Court and Family Court appearances
* Children's issues
* Property disputes
* Location order applications
* Recovery order applications
* Intervention orders

Jacqueline also volunteers her time at Whittlesea Legal Service and the Broadmeadows Magistrates Court Intervention Order service.

Matthew Holzer - Associate.

In addition to his Bachelor of Laws, Matthew has completed a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Psychology and Visual Art) and a Bachelor of Economics.

As a commercial litigator, Matthew has gained experience at all levels of the Victorian Court system and has acted in both litigious and transactional matters covering a broad range of legal issues including:-

* Contract and debt;
* Corporations law;
* Business and Joint Venture disputes and transactions;
* Property disputes including commercial leasing matters; and
* Intellectual property law;

Matthew is aware of the varying needs and resources of our clients and he is committed to obtaining ideal commercial outcomes in a timely and efficient manner.

Matthew joined Pearsons in 2007 with a view to complementing and enhancing our already experienced commercial litigation team.

Maria Bhatti - Associate Lawyer.

Maria has a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws with Honours from the University of Melbourne. Her areas of practice are Family law, including property and children's issues.

Maria was admitted to practice in early 2011 after completing her practical legal training from the Leo Cussen Institute.

Maria volunteers at Fitzroy Legal Service and the Baptist Church Soup Kitchen. She is also involved with her local women's group and is a member of the Muslim Legal Network and Victorian Women Lawyers.

Bani P Mishra - Senior Associate.

Bani holds an LLB from Bond University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, and is a Registered Migration Agent.

Bani was admitted to practice in 2003 and has practiced in the field of Family Law since this time.

Bani has been involved with many local community groups and has volunteered her family law services at the Advocacy & Rights Centre in Bendigo. Over the years Bani has practiced in many aspects of Family Law including: Matrimonial & De Facto children and property matters; Defacto Property proceedings in state (County Court and VCAT) and

* federal jurisdictions;
* Negotiating children's and property matters;
* Enforcement Proceedings;
* Property Proceedings;
* Children's proceedings;
* Contravention Proceedings;
* Divorce Applications; and
* Defended Divorce Hearings.

Bani also has considerable experience in Advocacy having appeared in the state and federal jurisdictions both in regional and metropolitan settings. At Pearsons Bani will be assisting clients in relation to all aspects of Family Law and will continue her court appearance work in the Federal Magistrates Court and Family Court in the Melbourne metropolitan area. Having many years of experience has meant that Bani is well equipped to guide family law clients through a difficult and uncertain time particularly when dealing with separation, living arrangements for the children and the division of jointly owned property. Having joined Pearsons in 2011 as a Senior Associate Bani is committed to providing our clients with a high level of service and understanding.

Emmanuel Kefalas - Associate Lawyer.

Emmanuel was admitted to practice in 2010 after completing a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Leo Cussen Institute.

Emmanuel has a Masters of Business in Information Systems and a Bachelor of Laws from Victoria University.

Emmanuel joined Pearsons in 2011 and his areas of practice are Family Law, including property and children's issues.

Emmanuel is a current Committee of Management member and active volunteer of the Monnee Valley Legal Service (MVLS) (formerly known as the Essendon Community Legal Centre).

Evie Reynolds - Associate Lawyer.

Evie graduated from Monash University in 2009 with 1st class Honours after completing a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts.

Evie was admitted to practice in early 2011 after completing her Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the Leo Cussen Institute.

Evie joined Pearsons in 2011 and practices exclusively in Family Law. She has experience in dealing with a wide range of matters such as:

* Property settlements
* Care arrangements for children
* Intervention orders
* Divorce applications

Evie is also a member of Victorian Women's Lawyers and the Family Law Section of the Law Institute of Victoria.
